Decided to restart, yet again, and try a different method.
Drew the simple swan skeleton (simplified it to 2 simple lines), positioned them in 3D then offset the lines, joined the ends, and created a u-loft between them. Made some adjustments to get the ribbon-like swan structure seen above. Took an hour or so, kinda fast, I'd say, once you have the method clear in your head. I just need to figure out how to fatten the swan to an actual sculpture. We'll see how it goes.
